Abby Lakew, is an African grammy award nominated singer songwriter and actress from Ethiopia and she was born in Gonder, Ethiopia.
Abby rose to fame with the release of her debut studio album Man Ale in 2007 which featured both English and Amharic songs and spawned several hits such as “Desta Keremela”, “Awo Bel”, “Ola”, "Man Ale” and “Hello Ethiopia”. The album was produced by her brother Million Lakew who she refers as her biggest influence. She has often been documented for describing her music as “all about love and her Ethiopian roots."
In 2012 she released a new single Shikorina followed by Endemewadeh, in 2014 Abererew, 2015 the smash hit Yene Habesha and 2016 Befikir Eskista.
In 2012 she landed the leading role in a critically acclaimed Ethiopian movie called Eyerus.
In September 2017 she released her second studio album ''Yene Habesha’’ where she wrote and co-produced most her songs.
